It’s 24-48 hours after you brought your beautiful baby into the world. Chances are, what you are wearing is the last thing on your mind. And rightfully so! You should be 100% focused on that sweet little babe that you can’t get enough of snuggling. But if your photographer is on the way for a Fresh 48 newborn session, what you are wearing might be at the forefront of your mind. So let’s figure out what you are going to wear before you ever make your way to the hospital!
First and foremost, comfort is key! Think yoga pants, sweats or pajama pants on bottom. A nursing tank top or loose, flowy shirt is perfect on top. And you can never go wrong with my current favorite Fresh 48 newborn session trend- a pretty robe. There are some great companies that make robes specifically for new moms. But, don’t be afraid to look at places you normally shop as well. I found a robe for my Fresh 48 session online by searching “satin robe”.
The key with each piece of clothing is to stick to pastel or neutral tones and avoid busy or small patterns. Definitely add a pop of color with your robe, if you choose to wear one. Just avoid bright or neon colors that could reflect on your skin or the skin of your sweet new baby.
You just had a baby after all! Mascara and dry shampoo are your new best friends, for your session and the coming weeks and months! Honestly, that new mama glow is all you need to make your Fresh 48 images incredible.
When dressing dad, a t shirt and jeans is perfect. If he’s more of a polo and khakis kind of guy, that’s great too. Once again, solid neutral colors are best. Keep it simple and avoid words or logos that might distract from the focus of the photos, that new bundle of joy! If you want to play it safe, choose what you’d like dad to wear beforehand and pack it in your hospital bag. That way you are ready to go!
Baby doesn’t need anything special. I love to photograph my Fresh 48 babies in their hospital shirt, diaper and hospital swaddle. Each of those items is such an iconic part of your postpartum stay. If you have a special swaddle or hat you’d like to include, we can absolutely do that towards the end of the session.
I know this gives you a lot to think about, but just remember, the outfits you choose won’t matter nearly as much as the memories of this exciting and important time for your family. Your memories are the most important thing for me and I really just want you to enjoy our time together. So whatever you end up wearing, just relax, be yourself, snuggle and kiss that new baby as much as you can and let me document it all!
